Five inputs, and the teardown updates as you type

  1. Enter your selling price

This is the price your customer pays on Amazon. It drives the referral fee directly, and it is the number every other figure on the page is measured against.

  2. Add your real costs

Product cost, shipping into Amazon's warehouse, prep fees and any other per-unit cost. Accuracy here is what separates a useful number from a comforting one.

  3. Select your category

Amazon's referral fee varies by category - from 8% on electronics and groceries to 17% on apparel. Choose the one closest to your product.

  4. Enter dimensions and weight

Packaged size and weight decide your FBA fulfillment tier. Use the measurements of the unit as it ships, not the bare product.

  5. Read the split

The bar shows where every dollar goes: what Amazon keeps, what you spend, what you keep. The ledger below has the exact figure for each line.

Amazon charges this

01

Referral fee

Referral fee = Selling price × Category rate

Amazon takes a percentage of every sale depending on your product category. General merchandise is 15%; electronics and groceries drop to 8%; apparel runs to 17%. It is calculated on the selling price before any other cost.

Size and weight based

02

FBA fulfillment fee

Billable weight = max(unit weight, L × W × H ÷ 139)
Tier = f(longest side, median side, shortest side, billable weight)

The fulfillment fee covers pick, pack and ship from Amazon's warehouse. Small Standard starts at $3.06, Large Standard at $4.51, Large Bulky at $9.61. A light product in a bulky box is billed on the box, not the scale.

Volume based

03

Monthly storage fee

Cubic feet = L × W × H ÷ 1728
Storage = cubic feet × monthly rate

Amazon charges for every cubic foot your inventory occupies. Off-peak is $0.78 per cubic foot per month; October through December it is $2.40 - three times more, and a critical variable when planning a holiday inventory build.

Your bottom line

04

Net profit, margin and ROI

Net profit = Selling price − all costs and fees
Margin = Net profit ÷ Selling price
ROI = Net profit ÷ Total investment

Total investment covers product cost, shipping, prep and other costs - but not Amazon's fees, since those are deducted from revenue rather than paid up front. ROI tells you the return on money you actually put in.

What this page does not include

Advertising is the largest cost this calculator leaves out, and on most accounts it is the third-largest line after the referral and fulfillment fees. Returns, long-term storage, removals, coupons and account-level charges are also outside a per-unit fee estimate. Together they are usually the gap between a modelled profit figure and what the settlement report pays you.

This page stops at what Amazon deducts from a sale. Once you know that, the next question is whether what remains is enough to run a business on - margin, ROI, and a judgement on the product. That is the job of the FBA profit and margin calculator.

Your numbers look good. Now make sure Amazon doesn't eat them.

Most sellers lose margin to inefficient ads, weak listing conversion and fees they never see coming. Xneeti's AI runs your account every hour - ads, creatives, inventory, payouts - so profit stays where it belongs.

Common questions

Is this calculator accurate for all Amazon marketplaces?

It is built for the US marketplace and uses Amazon's published US fee tables - referral percentages by category, FBA fulfillment tiers by size and weight, and monthly storage per cubic foot. Fees differ on other marketplaces, so for UK, EU, Canada or India estimates you will want marketplace-specific numbers rather than these.

Why doesn't my actual payout match this calculator?

Amazon's real payout carries deductions that vary by account: selling plan fees, returns and refunds, coupons, co-op charges, inventory disposal, reimbursement offsets and more. This gives you an accurate per-unit estimate of the fees that apply to a sale. For full account-level reconciliation - every dollar in and out, including reserves - you need something reading your settlement data directly.

Should I use product dimensions or packaging dimensions?

Always the packaged dimensions and the shipped weight, exactly as Amazon would measure the unit arriving at the fulfillment centre. Amazon measures at its own warehouse and assigns the fee tier from what it finds, not from what you declared. Oversized packaging relative to the product is one of the most common ways sellers land in a higher tier than they budgeted for.

How is the FBA fulfillment tier decided?

By the longest side, the median side, the shortest side and the billable weight. Small Standard covers items within 15 × 12 × 0.75 inches under 12 oz. Large Standard goes up to 18 × 14 × 8 inches at 20 lb. Beyond that you are into Large Bulky and Special Oversize, which carry substantially higher fees. Billable weight is the greater of actual weight and dimensional weight, which is length × width × height divided by 139.

Should I include Amazon PPC costs here?

Ad spend is not a fixed per-unit fee - it moves with your ACoS and conversion rate - so it is not built in. To account for it, put your estimated ad cost per unit sold into the Other costs field: total PPC spend divided by units sold, including organic units. That single number is usually the difference between a product that looks profitable and one that is.

What is a healthy profit margin for Amazon FBA?

Most experienced sellers target 20-30% net before PPC and 10-20% after. Below 10% net there is very little room to absorb returns, price cuts or a fee increase. ROI above 100% - doubling your money per unit - is considered strong in most categories, though the right number varies a lot by niche, competition and how aggressively you are buying traffic.

Does the sales tax field affect my profit?

Only if you tell it to. Amazon calculates and remits marketplace facilitator tax in most US states, so for the majority of sellers this should stay at zero. The field exists for the cases where the tax is genuinely a cost you carry. If you enter a percentage, it is deducted as a cost like any other.
